Graham Scott

Graham is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at McMaster University, and he is broadly interested in the physiological basis for how vertebrates respond and adapt to environmental challenges. He attended McMaster as an undergrad and did his honours thesis with Chris Wood. He then completed a MSc with Trish Schulte and a PhD with Bill Milsom at UBC. He was a postdoctoral fellow with Ian Johnston at the University of St Andrews in Scotland before returning to McMaster in 2011.

Till Harter

Till joined the lab in January 2023 as a NSERC Banting PDF. Before joining the lab, he did a PhD with Colin Brauner at UBC followed by a postdoc with Martin Tresguerres at Scripps. His PDF in the Scott Lab is examining erythrocyte physiology and cardiovascular function in high-altitude mice.

Derek Somo

Derek joined the lab in July 2023 after completing his PhD with Jeff Richards at UBC. His PDF is examining muscle development, mitochondrial physiology, and fuel use in high-altitude mice, in collaboration with Grant McClelland.

Ranim Saleem

Ranim joined the lab as a PhD student in September 2021, after completing a BSc at Wilfred Laurier University followed by a MSc with Ken Storey at Carleton University. Her PhD is examining mitochondrial adaptations to high altitude in deer mice.

Kayla Garvey

Kayla joined the lab in September 2022 as a MSc student after completing a BSc at University of Ottawa, where she did an honours thesis under the supervision of Steve Perry. Her MSc project is examining how evolved changes in haemoglobin-oxygen affinity interact with other traits in the oxygen transport pathway to increase aerobic capacity in high-altitude deer mice.

Caileigh Tomas

Caileigh joined the lab in September 2023 as a MSc student, after completing a BSc at the University of Guelph. Her project is examining how the gut microbiome regulates and contributes to thermogenesis in high-altitude deer mice.

Evelyn Alley

Evelyn is in McMaster’s undergraduate program in Honours Biology and Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour. She is doing a fourth-year thesis in the lab.

Mya Jain

Mya is in the Honours Biology program at McMaster. She is doing a fourth-year thesis in the lab.

Sonia Kamran

Sonia is in the Honours Biology program at McMaster. She started in the lab on a third-year project examining muscle adaptations to high altitude in Andean waterfowl. She is now doing a fourth-year thesis in the lab.
